The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has reiterated the need for judicial ICT staff to acquire cybersecurity best practices and encryption technologies training to be able to secure data storage and enhance the legal system.
Kekere-Ekun stated this Monday while giving a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the 2025 National Workshop on Information and Communication Technology held at the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in Abuja.
The theme of the workshop was ‘The Digital Evolution of Judicial Systems: Technology Access and Efficiency.’
The CJN, who was represented at the ceremony by the administrator NJI, Justice Salisu Garba, further cautioned judicial officials against risks associated with data breaches, cyber threats and online systems as they embrace digitalisation.
The judiciary, she said, deals with cases, files, personal information, and classified government data, making it a prime target for cyber attacks.
While harping on the protection of the integrity of court records, she cautioned against any compromise that could have a far-reaching legal and national security implications.
“Thus, strong cyber security framework must be implemented to safeguard judicial data from unauthorised access, hacking and corruption.
“Judicial ICT staff must be trained in cybersecurity best practices, encryption technologies, and secure data storage solutions,” Kekere-Ekun said.
