A container load of arms was yesterday intercepted by the Nigerian Customs Service at the Tin Can Island in Lagos.
Although the details of the seizure were still sketchy according to the spokesperson for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin Can command Uche Ejesieme, he however revealed that the container was discovered at the ports and cargo terminal.

The customs authority have therefore ordered everyone out of the terminal pending verification of the items.
It could be recalled that in January the service had intercepted 661 pump actions in Lagos.
Three persons and some customs officers were arrested in connection with the January incident.
The Controller General of NCS, Colonel Hammed Ali (rtd) had vowed that no stone would be left unturned to rid the nation of harmful and illegal importations.

He regretted that despite the federal government ban on illegal importation of ammunitions that some criminals still find the transaction attractive.
Ali urged Nigerians particularly business operators at the ports to remain vigilant and cooperate the customs to keep the country safe.
The CG insisted that no indicted customs officers and other culprits would be spared in the war against smuggling.
