A Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former NBA president, Olisa Agbakoba, has called out lawyers discussing the merits or demerits of the Chicago State University certificate of President Bola Tinubu to return to civility and adhere to legal processes in addressing the issue.

According to him, the cacophony of discordant voices over the certificate saga is completely out of hand, cautioning media outlets that have been adjudicating the Chicago State University matter on television and print to end the debate.

“Everyone should keep their opinions and views to themselves and wait for the Supreme Court decision,” the senior lawyer said.

Agbakoba, who reemphasised that the Supreme Court’s decision should be awaited before further discussions on the matter, called upon the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to address lawyers who breach ethical rules by turning the media into a court of law.

This was contained in a press release made available to this medium on Monday.

He said: “The lawyers and others arguing the case in the media should hold off and wait for the Supreme Court’s ruling.

“The cacophony of discordant voices on Tinubu/Atiku over the certificate matter is completely out of hand. This utter nonsense from armchair lawyers is heating up Nigeria dangerously.

“l am so ashamed to see Lawyers on Television arguing one way or the other on the merits or demerits of the Chicago State University matter. This is most unhelpful!

“This madness of Chicago State University must stop now. We should prevent further polarization and unnecessary escalation of tensions in the country. Let us allow the Supreme Court of Nigeria to make a judicial pronouncement which is binding on us all! This public nonsense must stop,” Agbakoba declared.
