The Ondo state government has concluded plans to ban activities of scavengers across the 18 local government areas and LCDAs in the state.
Dropping the information in Akure, Ondo state capital, Commander Western Security Network code named Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the activities of scavengers in the state were already a problem, with criminal records across the state.
The Amotekun commander, who also doubles as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, said a couple of days ago, the corps paraded one man who kidnapped an 8-year-old girl and put her in a sack under the pretence of packing garbage before he was apprehended.
He added that similar cases of burglary and house breaking were alleged in connection with many scavengers all over the state.
“So, we are working with the relevant government agencies to come up with a policy to ban the activities of these scavengers within the state,” he said.
The Amotekun corps also paraded 36 suspects involved in crimes ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, murder among others.
The security boss noted that the suspects were apprehended from various parts of the state through the collaboration of other security agencies.
He appealed to traditional rulers and their subjects to help security operatives in nipping crimes and criminality in the communities in the bud by giving useful information.
