Cricket body announces training of 30,000 players from Akwa Ibom annually

The National President of Nigeria Cricket Federation, Mr Uyi Akpata, has announced the readiness of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to assist in training no fewer than 30,000 players from Akwa Ibom state yearly.

Mr Akpata who disclosed this on Friday in Uyo, while leading the delegation of the ICC on a facility tour to the state, acknowledged that the state has developed a keen interest in cricket games.

The ICC General Manager, Development, Mr. Williams Glen-Wright, expressed happiness for Nigeria for being the fastest-growing member country in the World Cricket Federation.

He described the game as one of the most interesting sports in the world and said that the game was the second most popular in the world although many people were not aware.

Cricket in Nigeria is still at the low ebb despite years of efforts in advancing the sport in Africa and globally.
