Court remands man for raping own 14-year-old daughter

A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun state, Friday remanded a 44-year-old man, Kazeem Olapade, in correctional center for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter, Mariam. 


The police prosecutor, Mr. Akintunde Jacob, told the court that the defendant committed the purported crime between August 2020 and January 2021 at Ido-Osun in Egbedore local government of the state. 


The charge sheet reads: “That you Kazeem Olapade between the month of August, 2020 and January, 2021 at Ido-Osun in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did unlawful have sexual intercourse with one Mariam ‘f’ aged 14yrs and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 31(1)(2) of the Child’s Rights law of Osun State 2007.


“That you Kazeem Olapade, on the same date, time, place and in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully have carnally knowledge of your daughter one Mariam ‘f’ aged 14yrs against the order of nature and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 214(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. Il laws of Osun state of Nigeria 2002.


“That you Kazeem Olapade, on the same date, time, place and in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully and indecently assault one Mariam ‘f’ aged 14yrsand thereby committed an offence punishable under section 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. Il laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”


The defendant pleaded not guilty to the three count charges slammed against him. 


His counsel, K. C. Abioye, urged the court to grant his client bail pending the determination of the matter, promising that he would stand his trial. 


But, the Magistrate, Dr. Olusegun Ayilara, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ilesa correctional center and adjourned the matter to February 5, for hearing of his bails application.
