A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa state, Danjuma Adamu Jimeta, has decried the high cost of nomination forms of the party for the 2023 general elections.

Speaking to journalists in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, yesterday, Malam Adamu Jimeta said the high cost would mortgage Nigeria’s ruling party to the highest bidder to the detriment of those willing to give selfless service.

He lamented that the N100m, N50m for presidential and governorship aspirants, respectively, announced by the National Executive Committee (NEC) on Wednesday will kill APC in 2023.

Jimeta, a loyal party man and founding member from Nassarawa ward, said the national leaders have only succeeded in placing the party on the verge of collapse with the new scheme.

According to him, the party has already had aspirants working on plans for the initial delegates on ground, organising a new congress to elect who fles the party’s flag for 2023 may be a cancerous and disastrous decision against the party.

Jimeta also said the date scheduled for the delegates conference, which is less than one month, will not engender a credible exercise.

He advised that the primaries should be conducted based on the initial plan which allows the existing delegates to elect the state and national candidates.

He warned that changing or replacing delegates will create rancour which may plunge the party into crisis in the build to the 2023 elections.

“I do not see the wisdom in having another congress that will elect state and national delegates. What happened to the existing delegates? There are aspirants on ground using their strategies with the existing delegates, this will mean a lot of work to have another game plan for the new delegates.

“I don’t think this is good for the party and it will kill the party if care is not taken,” Jimeta said.
