Conference adjourns abruptly over mode of reaching consensus

The conference adjourned abruptly yesterday when delegates could not agree on the mode of arriving at a consensus. The more contentious issue of whether it was 2/3 or 3/4 votes should be used in determining decisions on contentious issues resurfaced and was adjourned for the third time.
The debate was brought back in the second session of the conference and Air Commodore Idongesit Nkagha from AkwaIbom state said that consensus would not work as it has not worked in many matters affecting the country in the past.

The delegates were sharply divided along the north and south of the country
While the northern delegates favoured 2/3, the southern colleagues preferred 3/4
The issue became so intense that commotion ensued when one of the delegates tried to wrest the microphone from a lady delegate and Otumba Ganiyu Adams immediately came to the woman’s rescue.
