Confab: Retired para-military officers decry exclusion

Retired para-military officers under the aegis of the National Association of Retired Para-military Officers (NARPO) have expressed displeasure at their exclusion from the delegates’ list for the national conference.

NARPO made up of retired officers of the Customs, Prisons and Immigration Services said their non-representation at the conference would rob the crucial national event of the needed contribution of a strategic segment of the nation.

NARPO’s National President, Dr. Adewale Oloyede, in a statement by his Publicity Secretary, Mr. Abdullahi Garuba Gulu, said in Abuja that the association, comprising retired officers of the Customs, Prisons and Immigration Services, was alarmed that they were excluded from the list of delegates recently released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation(OSGF).

He said: “While we applaud the noble intentions of the government in holding the conference, we wish to observe that NARPO’s omission is a mere error which we believe is being addressed by the Presidency whose attention we have already drawn to the matter. For the avoidance of doubt, our association has the size, spread and the varied exclusive expertise which we believe will add immense value to the conference.”

He added that the association had, as members, retired officers from para-military services such as former Comptrollers-General, Deputy Comptrollers-General amongst others, many of whom “are presently offering invaluable services in various fields to reputable national and international organisations.”
