The Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) will soon either transform into a full flesh political party or merge with an existing party to form a formidable front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Founder of the Third Force as the CNM is fondly tagged, former President Olusegun Obasanjo , disclosed this while speaking at the Town hall meeting organised by the Oyo state chapter of the CNM.
However, the outspoken former leader said he would cease to be its member the moment it transforms into a political outfit.
“As soon as the Movement transforms into a political party, he will cease to be its member as he had resolved not to a member of any party again in the country”.
“As soon as CNM becomes a political party or joins other parties to become political party as we cannot do it alone. There have to be grand alliance of all those who are not with those who are not performing for Nigeria. It has to be that way, and when that comes, your leaders will brief you.
“I want to repeat what I have always said and don’t get me wrong, once this movement becomes a political party, I will no longer become a member of that party. But my concern for Nigeria will not diminish; my struggle for the good of Nigeria, progress, unity and development of Nigeria will not diminish.”
Chief Obasanjo, who recently wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari asking him not to seek a second tenure, added: “even now, I have met people from other parties coming to me for advice. I don’t belong to their party. I don’t have anything to do with them other than to give them advice.
That situation will continue and I will continue to look for the good of Nigeria wherever and whenever. Let me assure you, having got this far, I will not leave you high and dry. And i know God will continue to be with us. Don’t ever think that it will be easy. A man should be ready to face task”, he said.
The State CNM National Coordinator, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, earlier said that the movement now has over 3million registered members across the country while its leadership have consulted far and wide with like minds and have resolved to transform to a political party but was quick to add that they will make open the process be it merger or other.
