The President of the Prime Environment Cleaners Network Association, Barrister Yakubu Mohammed Yazeed, has urged players in the industry to adopt innovative methods that align with climate action goals.

Yazeed stated this in his remarks at the second edition of the Cleaners Forum held in Abuja on Thursday, with the theme, “The Future of the Cleaning Industry.”

He noted that this year’s forum, which was held simultaneously across the country, was aimed not only to equip cleaners with essential skills and knowledge but also to shift mindsets toward embracing sustainable environmental practices.

He underscored the vital role cleaners play in environmental preservation

Speaking on behalf of the Director-General of the National Climate Change Secretariat, Hajia Halima Bawa Bwari, emphasized the need for sustainable practices in the cleaning sector, adding that cleaners are critical actors in the climate action movement.

Representing the Director-General of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, Sanitarian Rachel Omenta, stressed the importance of community engagement in addressing waste management challenges.

She noted that many areas in Abuja lack proper waste disposal infrastructure, adding that cleaners’ participation in community clean-up initiatives can significantly improve environmental outcomes.

Also speaking, Obitolu Stephen, from the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria,  representing the Director of Registration and Licensing, called for the professionalization of the industry.

He encouraged cleaning service providers to register with the council to promote structure and credibility within the sector.
