The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has trained 200 of its personnel on use of firearms to boost security operations in the country. The NSCDC spokesman, Emmanuel Okeh, told newsmen in Abuja that the personnel, drawn from 10 state commands, were trained between June and July. NSCDC The states were Borno, Bauchi, Niger, Taraba, Sokoto, Plateau, Kaduna, Benue, Yobe and Federal Capital Territory (FCT). “The essence of the training is to beef up personnel to be deployed to work in joint force with the military and other security agencies and to deploy some trained personnel to areas with critical security issues for protection. “We want all personnel, especially operational personnel to be highly informed on how to handle firearms. “This is why the firearms bearing training cuts across how to avoid accidental bullet discharge and the use of different brands of arms. “Because the corps personnel are into joint operations with other security agencies, there is no room for excuse not to operate any type of firearms presented for operations,” he said. FFS boss lauds Shettima over firefighters’ training
Controller General of the Feferal Fire Service (FFS) Engr. Joseph Garba Anebi was full of praises for the Borno state governor Alhaji Kashim Shettima for the attention and support his administration has given to the state fire service. Speaking at the passing out ceremony of the 107 officers and men of the Borno state fire service after undergoing a special training programme facilitated by the state government in partnership with the FFS, the CG urged other state governors to emulate governor Shettima. “This passing out ceremony is no doubt depicts the determination and singular unrelenting efforts of your Excellency in ensuring the safety of lives and property against all odds by providing necessary protection through training and retraining of state fire firefighters and accommodating the Federal Fire Service in the State,” he said. The CG also appeal to the governor never to relent in the good work he has started but “to do more in the areas of acquiring more modern firefighting equipment, recruitment of additional personnel, procurement of additional utility vehicles, and the expansion of the service to all the Local Government Areas in the State.” Anebi further urged the state Fire Service Director and his men to show more commitment in the discharge of their duties. For governor Shettima, who thanked the federal fire service for the empathy and support in the repositioning of the State Fire Service. He reiterated the need for increase in manpower for optimum result and assured the Controller General that he will not rest until Borno State Fire Service is the envy of all State Fire Services across the country. Governor Shetima also commended the 107 graduating officers and men for enduring the rigor of training.
