Newly appointed head coach of Libya’s national football team, Aliou Cisse, has threatened to resign over unpaid wages.
Cisse, who assumed the role in March 2025 after a successful stint with Senegal, is yet to receive any salary payment from the Libyan Football Federation. Despite the financial standoff, the 49-year-old tactician has led the Mediterranean Knights in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Angola and Cameroon.
Sources disclosed that Cisse is currently the second-highest-paid national team coach in Africa. However, his remuneration has reportedly remained unpaid since his arrival in Libya.
Frustrated by the situation, Cisse — whose contract runs until 2027 — has given the authorities a deadline to resolve the issue. He has vowed to resign if his outstanding dues are not settled by Thursday, July 17.
