The Executive Director of Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), Auwal Musa Ibrahim (Rafsanjani), has been given the 2017 Crusader of Peace and Justice Award.
The award was bestowed on him by the FCT Correspondents of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). Present at the event to confer the award were Mr. Ambrose Sule, Mr. Samuel Nworah and Hajaratu Ahmadu.
According to the correspondents, the award was overdue considering the role the the CISLAC ED has played in advocating for transparency in policy making.
According to a press statement issued by communication officer,, CISLAC, Onyekachi Eze, Mr Auwal appreciated the NUJ for counting CISLAC and himself worthy of such an award.
He noted that without the media CISLAC would not have been where it is presently because its activities would not have gained the massive public recognition it has today.
He, however pointed out that, he was initially sceptical about receiving the award due to its nature, but decided to receive it knowing that the media would alway give CISLAC its full support despite being a non-profitable organisation.
He acknowledged that the media’s collaboration with CISLAC has yielded uncountable benefits and as such called for continuous partnership in keeping the public informed and sensitized on electoral activities, health, education, security and other sectors.
He also reiterated the need for the government to be held accountable so as to sustain and consolidate democracy in Nigeria.
