Athletics Kenya Youth Committee Secretary Joseph Ilovi says, forty-five athletes are expected to represent the East African country at the forthcoming CAA U-18/U-20 Championships scheduled to hold in Abeokuta, Ogun State from July 16 to 20.

Kenya’s two-day trials which ended on Saturday, was used to select Team Kenya for the CAA African U-18/U-20 Championships.

After the trials, Ilovi said, the athletes will head to camp from June 30th to July 13th, before their July 14th departure.

He revealed that U-20 athletes must meet qualifying standards set by CAA, but the U-18 category is open.

Athletics Kenya has picked a team of 45 athletes; 18 for U-18 and 27 for U-20.

The Nigerian championships, the third combined youth and junior event, was initially scheduled to take place in Oran, Algeria, but was moved for what the CAA said were “various reasons.”

Over 700 athletes from about 50 countries are expected to grace the competition which has suffered two postponements.
