Buhari: Nigeria’s vice president, Gbajabiamila arrive UK

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in the United Kingdom to facilitate the repatriation of the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday after a prolonged illness.

Shettima’s arrival in the UK was confirmed early Monday by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, who revealed that the Vice President was received at the hospital by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuff Tuggar.

Presidency sources disclosed that Shettima departed Nigeria around midnight on Sunday. Upon his arrival in the UK on Monday morning, he was joined by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The late President Buhari, aged 82, died after years of battling undisclosed health issues. He served Nigeria as a two-term democratically elected President following an earlier stint as a military Head of State.

His body is expected to arrive in Nigeria today for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
