The Federal Government has postponed the special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session earlier scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2025, to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the session was postponed due to the state funeral for the former President, which will take place on the same day in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who had earlier directed the FEC session to honour Buhari for his service and contributions to Nigeria, has also declared Tuesday a public holiday in the late leader’s memory.

Onanuga added that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation will announce a new date for the special FEC session after the funeral rites are completed.

President Buhari, 82, passed away on Sunday in a London clinic following a prolonged illness. His remains are expected to arrive in Nigeria by noon on Tuesday, ahead of his burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

President Tinubu has declared a seven-day national mourning period, during which all flags will fly at half-mast across the country. He also dispatched Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to London to condole with the Buhari family and accompany the late President’s remains back to Nigeria.
