The leadership dispute in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) deepened on Wednesday as Nafiu Bala officially assumed the role of National Chairman.

Bala, previously Deputy National Chairman, described himself as the authentic party leader, citing the Electoral Act and the ADC constitution, which allow the deputy to succeed the National Chairman following Ralph Nwosu’s resignation.

Nwosu stepped down after the opposition coalition adopted ADC earlier this year, with David Mark serving as Interim National Chairman.

Bala accused coalition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, of attempting to hijack the party, adding: “Our former National Chairman voluntarily resigned, and our constitution clearly outlines the transfer of power. I now resume office as the authentic National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress.”
