Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming the party’s inability to address Nigeria’s pressing political problems.

In a resignation letter dated July 30 and addressed to the PDP Ward 1 Chairman in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye expressed disappointment in the party’s lack of capacity to effect meaningful change.

“This decision has become necessary due to the party’s apparent inability to rescue Nigerians from the political rot that continues to plague our nation,” he wrote.

Melaye, a close political associate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has since aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is gaining traction following the emergence of a new opposition coalition.

His departure comes amid a wave of defections from the PDP, including those of former Senate President David Mark, Atiku Abubakar, and media entrepreneur Dele Momodu. Mark now leads the ADC as its interim national chairman.
