The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, has resigned from office.
In a letter addressed to the Clerk of the Assembly and dated August 24, 2025, Dajoh announced his resignation, describing the decision as one taken “in good faith and in the best interest of the state.”
“I write to resign my position as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly effective today, 24th August, 2025,” the letter read.
The outgoing Speaker thanked his colleagues for their support during his tenure, noting that he appreciated the opportunity to serve as “first among equals.”
He assured his constituents in Gwer West State Constituency that he would remain committed to his legislative duties despite stepping down from the top leadership seat.
Shortly after submitting his resignation, Dajoh posted a copy of the letter on his Facebook page with the caption: “Let there be peace.”
His resignation comes against the backdrop of heightened political tension in the Assembly. Just days earlier, four lawmakers were suspended over an alleged plot to impeach him. Governor Hyacinth Alia has since denied any involvement in the reported plan.
With Dajoh’s exit, the Assembly is expected to begin the process of selecting a new Speaker in the coming days.
