Benue state fovernor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Wednesday, announced the dissolution of the State Executive Council (SEC), marking a significant transition in his administration.

The decision, made public at the close of the 12th SEC meeting at Government House Makurdi, signals the governor’s intent to reinvigorate his team ahead of the next phase of governance.

A statement issued by Chief Press Secretary Tersoo Kula said following the dissolution, the governor announced the appointment of Barr. Moses Atagher as the new Chief of Staff.

A respected figure in the state, Barr. Atagher previously served two terms as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

He also held the position of acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, underscoring his administrative depth and experience. His appointment takes immediate effect.

Governor Alia expressed gratitude to the outgoing commissioners for their dedication and service over the past two years.

While assuring that some may return in a future reconstitution, he encouraged those not reappointed to remain committed to the party and support the state’s development from within the system.

The governor clarified that the dissolution affects only the commissioners, not other officials.

He directed all former commissioners to promptly hand over to their respective permanent secretaries.

Barr. Bemsen Mnyim, speaking on behalf of the dissolved cabinet, thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve, calling it “a school” through which valuable lessons were learned.

With this strategic shake-up, governor Alia appears focused on restructuring his team for enhanced performance and wider inclusivity.
