The Borno state governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved relief packages comprising cash and food items to volunteers fighting Boko Haram insurgents alongside the military and other security agencies in Bama town.
The governor announced the package when he addressed the leadership and members of the vigilante groups at the palace of the Shehu of Bama, Umar Ibn Shehu Kyari Ibn Umar El kanemi, Monday.
He distributed cash and food items including rice and maize grain among others to a total of 810 combined vigilante groups.
He commended the vigilante groups for their support and sacrifices.
“We are aware of the enormous efforts you put into complementing the military in the fight against insurgency and other forms of criminality. We commend you and urge you to continue to be dedicated.
“The government of Borno state will never relent in extending support to you. Your welfare is of high priority to us and we will not leave you. Be assured that the government will always be with you,” Zulum said.
