Borno: Group donates free drugs, consumables to Herwa Clinic

As part of activities marking  Muharram  the new year of 1445 AH Islamic calendar, Frist Aid members of  Shababul Faida  Jamiyyatu Ansarudden  Attijaniyya Nigeria, have procured and donated free drugs and consumable  items to the less privileged, helpless children and nursing mothers at Herwa Clinic and State Special Hospital, Maiduguri.

Receiving the items, the Chief Medical, Dr. Shehu Mohammed,  said it is a rare opportunity that will be of great help and  assistance  to the children and nursing mothers, especially, the weak or the poor who cannot afford prescribed drugs or are in critical situation and  in need of support.

”Governor Zulum’s government introduced  Free  Maternal which the First Lady , even as  Dr. Palmara Babagana Umaa Zulum,  chairs dialysis. We appreciate and urge individuals and organisations to support these children and nursing mothers to alleviate their sufferings. It is beneficial and rewarding. That’s why we set up a committee on free donations to distribute such items to right children and nursing mothers,” Mohammed said.

He added that it has been long that the hospital got such support from the people or organisations including NGOs.

While appreciating the gesture, he called on wealthy individuals and organisations  to emulate the leaders and members of Shababul Faida First Aid Nigeria for such initiative and  subsequent donation.

Dr. Mohammed added that government alone cannot afford to accommodate all the medical needs of the  large member of patients to the hospital, particularly,  the children and nursing mothers.

He noted that the hospital management has set up a standing  social welfare committee on how  social support and free  drugs as well as other items donated for the children and nursing mothers  at the hospital are going to be judiciously distributed  based on  the

needs and condition or  status as well as level of illness  of the patients which comprises of different personnel from almost all the departments of the hospital including the unions.

He said such drugs and items in the past were kept in the central store  safely and shared accordingly based on the recommendations of the social welfare and distribution committee where  the departments of pediatric, gynaecology  and pharmacy are involved.

Dr. Mohammed assured that the items  would be handed over to  the committee for onward distribution to the  children  and nursing mothers free of charge in commemoration of  the New Year of the Islamic Calendar Muharram 1445 AH.

The facility manager, Herwa Clinic Maiduguri, Hahiya Maryam, thanked the donors for such presentation and assured of  judicious distribution of all the drugs donated to the needy.
