Gombe State Police Command, on Tuesday, arrested Blueprint Newspaper Photographer and AIT Reporter who were at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Mohammed Barde’s campaign office to cover the planned demolition of the office.
The two journalists, Chika Udenkwo of AIT and Joseph Atabo of Blueprint, were invited by Gombe State Urban Planning Development Authority (GUPSUDA) to cover the demolition exercise.
Special Weapon Armed Tactics (SWAT) officers were seen cordoning off the two axis leading to the PDP gubernatorial candidate’s campaign office and Government House.
Blueprint correspondent gathered that the demolition was however resisted by another set of Police team Special Protection Unit reportedly provided by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Baba, upon request of the PDP candidate.
When contacted about the arrest of the journalists, the Commissioner of Police, Ishola Babaita, said he was aware, adding that he would revert shortly.
