Indication emerged yesterday that all things being equal, a former governor of Osun state and the former interim national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, might emerge as the pioneer chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party.
The APC National Working Committee (NWC) had announced March 21 for the caucus meeting, while the BOT would meet on the 22nd where the Board’s chairman would be made known.

But ahead of the meetings, a top member of the party confirmed to Blueprint that some leaders of the party had resolved to back the candidacy of the former interim national chairman for the BoT chairmanship position.
The source revealed that though some northern leaders in the party were of the view that BoT chairman should come from the North where President Muhammadu Buhari hails from, but the superior argument from the South-west leaders is making way for Chief Bisi Akande.
“South-west is having upper hand because North-west produced the President, North-east produced the speaker, North-central has produced the Senate President,” he said.

It was also gathered that one of the national leaders of the party from the North-east who was nursing ambition of BoT chairman had dropped the ambition based on advised from other leaders.
Speaking with newsmen in an interview recently, the national chairman of APC, John Oyegun, assured that the Board of Trustees would be constituted on March 22.
“The Board of Trustees will be meeting on March 22, the day before the national caucus will be meeting and the NEC of the party will be meeting on the 24th.”
