Benue, RGL group sign MoU to boost food security 

The Benue state Government, Friday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RGL Group for the development of the National Food City Complex in Otukpo. 

The signing ceremony, which took place at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to improve food security and promote agricultural development.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Professor Moses Ogbaji, in his remarks, welcomed RGL Group to the state and expressed his delight in signing the agreement. 

The Commissioner congratulated RGL Group on the signing of the MoU and expressed his optimism that the project will be implemented with seriousness and commitment. 

He emphasized that the state government is not joking about the project and expects tangible benefits to accrue to the state and its people.

He warned against using the project as a means of acquiring loans, which may not materialised in the long run.

The executive Secretary of BENIPA Terhemen John Paul Gbenkaan in his address emphasised that the project is genuine and well-known to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, and that it has the potential to benefit the state and its people.

According to him, the National Food City Complex is expected to be established in Otukpo, with plans to extend it to other local government areas, including Vandeikya. 

“The project aims to promote food production, processing, and storage, and will provide a platform for farmers, processors, and other stakeholders to access markets and services.

He said a thorough due diligence process was conducted, including sending project documents to 13 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) for expert advice and it all received positive responses. 

He further expressed optimism that the project will be successful and benefit the people of Benue State.

“This MoU signing is the first PPP agreement that the government will be signing with the private sector, and it demonstrates the government’s commitment to development and delivering dividends to the people.”

Also Managing Director of RGL Femi Apata, described the event as a testament to divine orchestration.

He said the company is prepared and determine to make Benue State a hub for food production and processing.

“Today, we’re witnessing a special event that will write history in Benue State.

 “People will no longer need to travel to other places for finished food products; instead, they’ll be coming to Benue State. This is our dream, and it’s in line with our potential as the food basket of the nation.

“I believe that our gathering today will mark the beginning of a new era in Benue State’s agricultural development. 

By the grace of God, within the next 60 days, we’ll be celebrating milestones achieved on the ground, not just in theory,” he added.
