The Benue state Police Command Wednesday said 205 suspects arrested by the command between February and May, 2021 have been charged to court.
The command also awarded seven Police officers for outstanding achievement within the period under review.
Briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Makurdi, the Commissioner of Police Benue state Command, CP Audu Madaki, said those given the award included Justin Gberidyer of the Benue joint security outfit Operation ZENDA, the PPRO Catherine Sewuese Anene, officer in charge of high ways Tersoo Ugbe, DPO Daudu, SP Ojekunle NJ, DPO Katsina-Ala, Danjuma Ibrahim, DPO Ado, Danjuma Achimugu, and ASP Danlamin Usman, an officer of Operation Zenda.
According to him, the award was aimed at motivating the officers to do more in fighting crime, adding that it would also spur others to improve in their efforts in tackling criminality.
He said the command since he assumed office in February, he had embarked on robust community policing and intensified fight against crimes, resulting in the achievements recorded within the period.
The CP disclosed that within the period, about 205 persons were charged to court with at least 131 suspects awaiting trial for various offences, ranging from armed robbery rape, kidnapping, mischief by fire, cultism, etc.
He said the command also recovered 32 fire arms, including 6 AK 47, one G3, three
double barrel guns, 22 locally made pistols.
He noted that the high number of pistols recovered was because there were many blacksmiths within the state that fabricate the pistols.
CP Madaki also noted that 726 live ammunition and 207 live cartridges were also recovered from the criminals within the period.
