Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state, Sunday, debunked rumours of his alleged plan to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the reports as “fake news.”
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, Alia’s office described the publication by Sahara Reporters as “yellow journalism” and urged the public to disregard the report.
The statement noted that Alia has been an active participant in the affairs of the APC and has a super working relationship with the party leadership in the state, led by Hon. Benjamin Omale.
“Alia’s recent endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the APC’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential elections was cited as evidence of his loyalty to the party,” the statement said.
The governor’s office also pointed out that Alia’s presence at the APC summit in Abuja, along with other governors, contradicts the false narrative of a strained relationship with the presidency.
The statement emphasised that Benue state stands to benefit more under APC and the Tinubu-led presidency, and Alia will continue to deliver good governance to the people of Benue state on the party platform.
“It is appalling and disappointing how a medium could blatantly publish lies to cast doubts on the attendance of a personality like a state governor in an occasion he attended along with his colleagues with full media coverage.
“We urge readers and the general public to yet again, disregard this fake news report and to always rely on credible sources of information rather than fake information mediums.
“The governor has no plans to defect from the APC, especially as Benue State stands to benefit more under the party and the Tinubu led presidency.
“He will continue to deliver good governance to the people of the Benue State on the APC platform they elected him,” the statement reads in part.
