Bandits have stormed Sabon Garin Damri of Bakura local government in Zamfara state, kidnapping over 50 villagers.

A resident in the area, Malam Sani Damri, told Blueprint via a telephone interview that the bandits in large numbers besieged the village Sunday morning carrying dangerous weapons and started house- to- house searching.

He said those kidnapped were mainly women and children, adding that hundreds of livestock, including cows, sheep and goats belonging to the communities were rustled by the bandits.

“As I am talking to you now, we discovered that over 50 of our people, mainly women and children, were kidnapped by these terrorists during the attack on our village and they made away with hundreds of animals ranging from cows, sheep and goats,” he said.

He lamented that the area has been neglected by security personnel despite the incessant attacks by the terrorists.

“We are in a critical situation because these terrorist groups wanted to kill all of us and up till now, security personnel were not deployed to our area,” he said.

It could be recalled that a few weeks ago, the bandits attacked the communities of Damri, Dakko and Dambo in Bakura local government where they kidnapped many people and carted away hundreds of animals belonging to the communities.

He appealed to Zamfara state and the federal government to come to their assistance  by deploying security operatives in the area in order to checkmate terrorists who terrorise them.

“We are calling on the Zamfara state government and the federal government to provide enough security personnel to our area  to fight the terrorists for our safety,” Malam Sani Damri stated.

Efforts to reach the state police command spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar by our correspondent proved abortive as at the time of compiling the report.
