Banditry, kidnapping, nepotism effects of corruption on society – Hon Igbawua

“Corruption is a cancer and most of the vices such as banditry, kidnapping, lack of adequate development, robbery, nepotism are caused by the high level of corruption we are witnessing in the country today, a stakeholder Hon. Chille Igbawua, the Chief Commissioner, Public Complaint Commission (PCC) has declared.


Speaking on the 3rd National Anti-Corruption Marathon Annual National Youths and Students Summit which was conducted virtually at the Media Centre of the Abuja Stadium on Wednesday on the topic “Good Governance and Corruption”, Hon.Igbawua highlighted vices responsible for corruption in the society and call on Nigerians especially the Youths and students to shun vices that are inimical to the growth of the society.


Others speakers at the well attended event to celebrate the World Anti-Corruption Day include, Oliver Stope from the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crimes and Mr.Caleb Gidado the General Manager, African Union Sports Council.
Gidado in his speech titled, “Corruption ,causes and Consequences in Sports’ bemoaned that corruption is a big problem to not only the sports circle but to the whole world.


He highlighted how the dreaded menace has eaten deep into fabrics of sports in the country and responsible for all the woes and failure the country is experiencing.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the National Coordinator, Jacob Onu has called on Youths and Students “you must equally remember that the fight against corruption is a long, difficult and sometimes frustrating one, the one underlying factor is that we must never give up and that we must win. 


The fight against corruption is not a one off battle, rather a continuous one that requires perseverance and endurance. This is the reason behind this initiative. The marathon race is symbolic in that without perseverance and endurance one can’t start and finish a marathon race.
“Just as we are fighting and battling corruption on one hand we are equally against the use of drugs enhancing substance by athletes in our sports. The effects are enormous. We encourage athletes to shun such vices as its ungodly, immoral and cheating.”
The 3rd National Anti-Corruption Marathon will hold on Saturday, December 19, in Abuja.
