Bagudu assures quality education, economic empowerment for Kebbi indigenes

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state has assured of his administration’s commitment to ensuring that children of school age receive quality education at all levels.

The governor stated this in an interactive session with journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

A press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Government House, Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingarquoted Bagudu as saying statistics of all children in the state, including almajiri kids would be taken to identify their parents or guardians as well as register children of migrant Fulani, fishermen and traders who move from place to place.

Governor Bagudu further pledged to sustain support to farmers, fishermen and nomadic Fulani, especially women empowerment for economic prosperity, saying loan disbursement was made to them last year in addition to training of Fulani women and provision of 40 nomadic schools in the state.

The governor gave an assurance on the provision of fertiliser and other farm inputs to enhance agricultural production for internal consumption and export.

He expressed gladness that Kebbi has recently recorded an upsurge of industries, especially rice mills and tomato processing factories, while the federal government has designated Birnin Kebbi airport to handle cargo to facilitate trade with foreign countries.

He said the state government will encourage indigenes of the state to avail themselves of various programmes introduced by the federal government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari on economic empowerment.

The governor promised to assist victims of last week’s windstorm disaster in Birnin Kebbi and other parts of the state, through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) after due assessment.
