The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU Sokoto zone has accused federal government and some vice chancellors of maltreating its members.
The Zonal coordinator, Professor Abubakar Sabo who made the allegation while addressing a press conference in Sokoto, said that the federal government had rather than addressing and implement what was agreed upon in 2022 FG/ ASUU MoU resorted to emotional assault of its members through the use of some power drunken vice chancellors and visitors of some state universities
Yabo said ASUU noted with dismay the tyrannical attitudes of some university administrators and some government officials whom he described as agent of destruction of the system which they are meant to protect and promote
He cited the dismissal of Shehu Tadda of the federal university Dutsinma and unjustified suspension of Dr Aondoka as a clear examples of the government and some university administrators tyrannical attitude to its members.
“Our zone is amazed by attitude of some overzealous university vice chancellors who have become so intoxicated with power and thus, resort to the unwholesome antics of tyranny and victimization of innocent members our union
” This is exemplified by reports of classic cases of clear victimization of our members by the management of the federal university Dutsima, Katsina state
“Two of such cases include the outright dismissal of Shehu Tadda, in a manner suggestive of vengeance and the unjustified suspension of Dr. Aondoaka Asambe whose reinstatement was ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction but the university management has refused to abide by order
” Such arrogant disposition clearly depicts impunity and highhandedness on the part of the university administration,” the zonal coordinator stated
Professor Yabo condemned the attitude and also noted that if not promptly arrested, it will have the tendency to further plunge the university system into available chaos
He called on the concerned universities to thread the path of civility and global best practices by treating university academics with deserved decorum
