ASUU protests half-salary payment at FULafia

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Nasarawa state has protested the half payment of its salaries by the federal government.

The chairman of FULafia ASUU, Adamu Abdullahi, on Friday, said they were protesting against pro-rata salaries and wanted the government to pay them their eight months’ outstanding salaries.

He said further that the work of a lecturer was beyond just lectures in the classroom, stressing that, “We carry out research in the library, laboratory, our homes, supervised projects and mark scripts.”

He called on the government to “do the needful to avoid further crisis in the sector.”

The union also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, and the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, for mishandling the strike by the union.

Placards were seen with inscriptions such as, pay withheld salaries now, Adamu Adamu has failed, No to pro rata salary, pay attention to education, restore dignity of universities, among others.
