The Nigerian Army has commenced the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NACEL) and the Combat Support Arms Training (COSAT) week.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai made the announcement Friday at the Military Command and Control Centre of Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri.
He said both the NACEL and COSAT are important milestone for the implementation of the Nigerian Army training activities 2019.
“It is an occasion used as a platform for the Nigerian Army to reflect on its performance and celebrate its achievement as well as highlight our operations as key instrument of national power, unity, integration and development,” the army chief said.
“The Nigerian Army has been leveraging on the event to also showcase our commitment as a professionally responsive force.
“The COSAT is an important training activities which provide a platform for combat support arms to reappraise their performance in providing combat support to the Nigerian Army operations.”
He said the events which hold jointly with the theme: “Professionally Responsive Soldering: A panacea for successful military operation,” is “a novelty which effectively support the Nigerian Army’s drive towards the building of a professionally responsive force.”
The Army chief said this year’s event is significant as it is directed towards enhancing their training with particular emphasis on combat support arms for enhanced capacity building.
“This is coming at a time we are actively involved in multifarious operations across the country in which the thorough knowledge of procedure, application of fire power, resource management and actionable intelligence are most invaluable for our success,” he said.
While assuring Nigerians that the army in collaboration with other security agencies was working hard to ensure peace and security across the country, he urged the citizens to show interest and love their own army and other security agencies.
The Army Chief acknowledged the contributions of the media to peace and development of the country, but it to desist from negative reportage capable of inciting people against constituted authorities and thereby breaching the peace.
The two events would hold in Lagos, with some activities slated for the week-long event which include interdenominational church service, Juma’at prayer, environmental sanitation, and free medical outreach, in all Nigerian Army units and formation, among others.
