Following cries of hunger amidst skyrocketing prices of food across the country, Arewa Think Tank has urged President Bola Tinubu to provide food for Nigerians from reserve and tackle economic saboteurs who are hoarding food to create artificialò scarcity.
President Tinubu has been inundated with protests by Nigerians, over high cost of food. They asked him to find an enduring solution to the hunger in the country.ķ
But a Northern group attributed the scarcity of food to the activities of economic saboteurs, who it claimed are mopping up available food items to embarrass the Tinubu administration.
It also called for a probe into recent food palliatives given to the 36 governors by the federal government for distribution to the masses and the N3.4 trillion federal allocations received by the governors in the last six months.
According to the Chief Convener of Arewa Think Tank, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, Nigerians will overcome the challenges of the moment and enjoy economic growth that will carry everyone along.
He said President Tinubu needs to come down hard on economic saboteurs in a bid to ensure food availability in the country.
“In the last six months, the 36 state governors received N3.4 trillion. This is just their federal allocation, IGR not inclusive, what did they do with it? Where are the rice and other food items given to them to share to the masses?”
“We believe that the food scarcity is artificial because Nigeria is far much better economically than where it was on May 29, 2023. We see economic saboteurs at clandestine work to frustrate and embarrass the Tinubu administration. We are calling on the president to deal decisively with the enemies of progress against his government.”
