APC women group demands appointment from Tinubu

Members of the former women-wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint some of their members into government as a matter of justice, equity and fairness.

The ninety-five women who are heads of respective organisations representing over 1,000 groups, said they were still counting their losses and living in the pains they suffered while campaigning for the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 presidency.

According to the group, some of their members paid the supreme price while they crisscrossed the country during the 2023 campaigns for president as they queued behind Senator Oluremi Tinubu, it was painful that the presidency did not consider any of them qualified for appointment.

Spokeswoman of the group, Hajiya Rekiya Abdullahi who issued a statement in Abuja, said it was not out of place for President Tinubu to use his second anniversary in office to correct the wrong the women had suffered in the past two years.

According to Hajiya Abdullahi, with the talks of coalition, several overtures were being made to their members, adding “it has become expedient for us to make an open demand on the President whom they have served diligently and have shown loyalty until now”.

She said their leaders had come under intense query from their members, who feel they were used and dumped as they could not be able to convince them that it was the same team they mobilised for that is in government while they were left out of the scheme of things.

“Throughout the campaign period, we stood firmly behind Her Excellency, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, crisscrossing the country, mobilising support, canvassing votes, and advocating for the party’s agenda at the grassroots level.

“Two years into this administration, these women feel neglected, ignored, and sidelined.

Despite their unwavering support and immeasurable contributions, not a single individual from the Women’s Wing of the PCC has been recognized or rewarded with appointments or any form of compensation.

“This sense of abandonment is deeply disheartening, demoralizing and unacceptable.

“Our members are left to watch from the sidelines, while others who played no significant roles are being recognized and elevated.

This “use-and-dump” approach is not only unjust but also risks eroding the morale of women who form a significant majority of the electorate and who were pivotal to the party’s 2023 electoral victory.
