APC: Uncertainty as Ganduje resigns as nat’l chair

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position after about 22 months on the saddle.

The Kano state-born politician is the 6th national chairman of the APC succeeding the former Nasarawa state governor, Abdullahi Adamu.

Dr. Ganduje emerged as national chairman of APC in August 2023 but shockingly resigned Friday voluntarily.

Although, as at the time of filing this report, there was no official confirmation from the party but reliable sources at the national secretariat of the APC confirmed the development, adding that a letter to the effect was addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Bashiru.

A senior official of the party who pleaded anonymity told Blueprint correspondent that the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Abubakar Dalori, is to take over in acting capacity in line with the constitution of the party pending the party’s national convention scheduled for December this year.

The source said: “The National Chairman staff came earlier in the day to pack his belongings in the secretariat. We were all shocked that he resigned.”

Another source said Ganduje threw in the towel citing health reasons for his decision.

When our correspondent visited the Muhammadu Buhari House (national secretariat), the headquarters of the party in Abuja was thrown into confusion as staff and party members were seen discussing the development.

The development has also thrown members of the NWC into panic mode as the decision of the chairman to resign came as a rude shock.
