APC takes early lead in Lagos LG elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken an early lead in the ongoing local government elections across Lagos State, as vote sorting and collation continue across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.

Despite the largely peaceful conduct of the polls, voter turnout was significantly low in many polling units.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who cast his vote at Polling Unit 006, Ward E3, located at St. Stevens Nursery and Primary School in the Adeniji-Adele area, acknowledged minor logistical challenges that delayed the commencement of voting in some areas. He attributed the delays to movement restrictions.

As of 4:00 p.m., unofficial reports from several polling units suggested the APC was leading in both the chairmanship and councillorship contests. The ruling party was reported to be ahead in key areas including Yaba, Somolu, Bariga, Ikeja, Agege, and Sanwo-Olu’s own polling unit.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was trailing in second place, while the Labour Party (LP) held third position based on preliminary results.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) is expected to announce the official results once collation is completed.
