APC raises alarm over plan to cause crisis in Sokoto

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto state has accused Governor Àminu Waziri Tambuwal of inciting PDP members to cause mayhem in the forthcoming governorship and state assembly elections billed for this Saturday.

Addressing the press in Sokoto at the weekend, APC chairman in the state, Hon. Isa Sadiq Acida, called on various security agencies in the state to put Tambuwal on their watchlist because his recent political utterances “have become worrisome as they are calls for violence”.

According to him, the state governor recently held a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Kasarawa where he mandated his party supporters to arrest and detain any opposition supporter they felt “is a threat to PDP at any polling unit in the state”, hence the APC believes these utterances from a desperate political leader should be checkmated.

The APC however noted that even within the PDP there were people who abhor violence, citing example of a federal lawmaker, Hon. Abdullahi Salami, who disassociated himself from the utterances of the state governor.

“Even though we do not share the same political ideology with Hon. Salame but we commend him for distancing himself from the militant comments make by Gov. Tambuwal”, the APC chairman stated.

He emphasised that the order by President Muhammadu Buhari to shoot aon sight anyone who snatched or destroyed ballot boxes was still applicable nationwide and Sokoto was not an exception.

He therefore warned youths, irrespective of their political affiliation, to shun violence as leaders of tomorrow, adding that “you should not allow selfish politicians to use you for violence while their children are comfortably staying at home enjoying”.

The APC also called for the immediate transfer of all INEC officers in the state accused of giving the PDP sensitive information as it happened in the 2019 elections in the state.

Hon. Isa Acida called on the teeming APC supporters in the state to come out in large numbers on March 11 to vote for the party.

He said adequate security arrangements have been made to protect every voter in the state to perform their civic rights.
