The Edo state House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has explained his decision to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that it was geared to retain the benefits of the speakership seat.

He also stated that his move was not for personal interest or gains, but for the growth and progress of his constituency.

Agbebaku who disclosed this at plenary on Wednesday, officially informed  members of his defection to APC.

He noted, “As a speaker, if I throw away this position because of the party, the position that would enhance development in my area, it means that I am  not ready to serve my people.

“My constituent was in support of my decision because of ongoing developmental projects in Owan West initiated by Governor Monday Okpebholo.

“On that note, I took that decision, and I think to a large extent, my people are happy about it.

“And to me, there is no party in this House. We are all working with the governor to take the State to the next level so that the people will enjoy the dividends of democracy.”
