Another season of political anomie is here

By Koleoso Adelowo

This is not politics but callousness, impunity and foolishness on the part of those who charted the path for the impeachment saga. Is it only the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors that are financially reckless and fraudulent? What about the states ruled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors who have not justified revenues collected for years but leaving their states pauperized and more impoverished? Desperation has never achieved anything tangible except leaving the desperadoes more devastated than they anticipated. In a Yoruba parlance, “when a white man (evil doer) is about to leave his much coveted seat, he does all sort of things to cause problems for the society because he knows he is losing the grip of his so much loved position.” The literary meaning of this is that, when the PDP is about to be voted out from Nigerian political scene, it resulted at causing more upset.

The application of this is that, PDP is not leaving any stone unturned to get at the opposition APC governors, especially those who decamped from its fold to the opposition enclave. What is happening across the states controlled by the opposition APC such as Adamawa, Nasarawa, Edo, Ekiti, Osun is not politics but rascality of the highest order coming from the highest power that be. People or Nigerians are not stupid. PDP will reap bountifully what it is sowing. If the president thinks this action of generating impeachment against opposition will cow or compel people to vote for him and his party, they will all regret their actions in 2015. Let the President and his party continue to perfect the act of lawlessness and intimidation, Nigerians will rise against them. It is stupid and foolish for anyone to do what they are doing as disgruntled power mongers.

This is another season of political anomie in the country. Between 2005 and 2006, impeachment was the order of the day against those governors that fell out of favour with the imperial president of that period, President OlusegunObasanjo. Those who bore the brunt of Obasanjo’s impeachment pang were; Joshua ChibiDariye, the former governor of Plateau state, Senator RasheedAdewoluOladoja, Oyo State, Peter AyodeleFayose, Ekiti State and DepriyeAlamieyeseigha, Bayelsa State. All these were of PDP political extraction. Well, dog can eat dog as far as these ones are concerned. They are birds of the same feather who flock together.

Nobody would have given a hoot even if the impeachment plot initiated by Alhaji Umar GhaliNa’aba, former Speaker of the House of Representatives went through against Obasanjo.
Now, AdmiraMurtalaNyako (rtd) of Adamawa State has been impeached as an opposition governor. At what point did PDP wake up from its slumber to instigate impeachment? Where was the Adamawa State House of Assembly when Nyako was in PDP? But because of irresponsible politicking, the Presidency turned round to instigate the house against the governor.

The issues of financial recklessness and extra-budgetary expenditure are also very glaring at the federal level but the National Assembly has closed its eyes to it instead of moving against the President. Today, Nyako is gone, whether the President likes it or not, Nigerians will also resist his self-imposition on the nation after his abysmal performances with impunity and recklessness with corruption steering at him all over the sectors of the economy. Nigeria has never had it so bad under any leader like this political neophyte. The day of reckoning is at hand. They will surely meet their waterloo very soon one after the other. There is a limit to impunity. It cannot continue forever. Nigerians must join hands together to remove PDP from power through whatever means possible, democratically.
