The association also called on the Federal Government to immortalize the late literary icon, because he was a nationalist to the core, a man that his legacies will stand the tests of times.
The statement read in part: “Elechi Amadi was one member of the first generation of Nigerian writers who remained steadfast in mentoring the talents of generations of writers that came after and associated with them freely without airs. Born on May 12, 1934, Elechi Amadi, retains a remarkable position of relevance in contemporary Nigerian and Africa literature as one of the finest pens of his own era.

“We mourn the passage of this literary colossus and father of our literary vocation. We salute his pedigree and pay homage to the factors that created the quintessential Elechi Amadi, the patriot, humanist, delightful storyteller and complete gentleman. We honour his legacy and pray to have him reincarnated in the emerging crop of writers in the country.
“As we await the formal interment of his remains in due time, the leadership of ANA enjoins all members in and out of the country to extend condolences in various ways to the Rivers State Chapter of the Association as we also will be collectively active in immortalising his legacy through various events in the coming days.
