The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, Wednesday, emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries for the AMAC chairmanship election with 51 votes.
The AMAC Electoral Committee Chairman, Dr. Habib Ibrahim, who announced the result, urged all aspirants to accept the outcome and support the winner in good faith, while some prominent candidates stepped down in favour of Maikalangu.
The Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Hon. Zephaniah Jisalo, who is also the leader of APC in FCT, congratulated Maikalangu on his victory in the APC primaries.
Jisalo urged all aspirants and parties involved to accept the outcome of the primary election.
Maikalangu in his reaction, thanked party delegates for their votes and support, while calling on other aspirants who contested against him sheath their swords and join hands with him to work together for overall interest of the party and AMAC communities.
In an exclusive interview with Blueprint, the Senior Special Assistant to Maikalangu on Media and Public Affairs, Hon Kingsley Madaki, said the council boss will focus on delivering dividends of democracy when reelected in the AMAC Chairman election next year.
He said: “Candidates stepping down for Maikalangu demonstrates the confidence and trust party members have in his leadership abilities. The win solidifies his position as the party’s standard flag bearer for the upcoming 2026 general election”.
