Benue State Governor Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia has emphasized the need for proactive measures to secure national stability.
Speaking at an interactive chat with some media houses Thursday in Makurdi, the governor emphasised that Nigeria’s natural resources should be a blessing, not a curse, if managed properly.
He said the porous borders of Benue state with Cameroon and other states of the country were leading to persistent security challenges and an influx of illegal elements.
The governor stressed the importance of government efficiency, citing previous administrations’ neglect of essential services.
He said his administration prioritises prompt payment of salaries and entitlements, systematic planning and execution to improve the state’s welfare.
He said the state under his administration is focusing on agriculture and resource management to uplift the local economy
The governor also said he has embarked on upgrading local hospitals and clinics, to address increasing cancer cases and is providing scholarships for medical students.
Supporting educational sectors and ensuring teachers and civic workers receive their dues
Governor Alia affirmed loyalty to the ruling party, distancing himself from splinter factions. He emphasised dedication to uplifting the state through strategic governance and enhancing citizens’ quality of life.
The governor highlighted the need for short-term solutions for IDP camps and engaging the federal government for supportive actions.
The governor also addressed other pressing concerns in the press interview, focusing on community attacks, national stability and economic development.
