The Senator representing Nasarawa South senatorial district, Umaru Al-Makura,has distributed five trucks of fertiliser to farmers across the five local government areas of his senatorial district.
During the distribution on Monday, in Lafia, Al-Makura said the gesture was to complement the efforts of the federal and Nasarawa state governments to diversify the economy, as well as to ensure bumper harvest and achieve food security in the state.
“The demand for fertilizers is limited and the price is exorbitant for farmers for this reason in my small way support the government of the state,” he said.
The former governor of Nasarawa state also distributed 150 cartons of herbicide and pesticide to assist the farmers in the senatorial district.
He promised to continue to ensure that he touches the lives of the people of the zone positively.
The benefited area councils which constitute the senatorial district include: Lafia, Doma, Obi, Keana and Awe.
Speaking, the deputy governor of the state Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, expressed gratitude to the senator for complementing government’s efforts to boost agriculture.
