The newly constituted members committee of Petroleum Monitoring Task Force, Akwa Ibom state, has been charged to bring to an end the perennial security of the products and ensure that life was easy for the statue.
Governor Godswill Akpabio gave the charge on Wednesday while inaugurating the task force at Government House, Uyo.
Akpabio who gave the charge thought the secretary to the state government, Mr. Udo Emmanuel explained that while the state government was working hard to ensure that life was easier in the state, while members of the petroleum marketers were bent on making life unbearable for his people.
He said “the state has observed with dismay-that petroleum products were being sold above the approved government rates in the state and I urged you to address the ugly trend immediately. We cannot continue to live on this unhealthy situation by putting the state in misery and pains”.
Responding, the chairman of the monitoring team, Mr. Obong Essien Esema, assured the state government of doing their job in accordance with the term of references and commended the state government worthy to serve.
He appealed to the state government to assist the committee with vehicles to enable them discharge their duty effectively.
Blue print gathered that before now petroleum products were sold between N120 – 150 a litre in the state, a development which compelled the state government to set up the petroleum monitoring task.
Our correspondent reports that members of the tasks were drawn from security agencies, Independent Petroleum, Marketers Association or Nigeria, Organized Labour, Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources.
