After Blueprint’s report, Ogun Amotekun releases illegally detained suspects

The Ogun state Amotekun corps commander, CP David Akinremi, has ordered the release of all illegally detained suspects in its cells.

This is sequel to an investigative report done by Blueprint Newspapers’ reporter in Ogun state on the illegal detention and torture of suspects under the local security outfit.

According to a reliable source, all suspects in the Abeokuta cell have been released as of Friday, April 28, 2023.

Recall that Blueprint Newspapers had reported about the illegal activities of the local security outfit in the last two years of its inauguration on Wednesday.

The detailed report had highlighted the activities of Amotekun Corps, stating how suspects were subjected to inhumane tortures without recourse to fundamental human rights and the rule of law which subscribed that “a suspect is assumed innocent until proven guilty in court.”

One of the released suspects who asked not to be named in print said his incarceration in the cell, without being taken to court, was an affront on the rule of law.

He added that with time, he would seek redress in court, saying that he was not guilty of the charges against him, but was never allowed to state his side of the case.
