African Icon Awards honors Olakunle as outstanding cybersecurity expert

Renowned cybersecurity engineer and information security analyst, Lawal Muyideen Olakunle, has been honored with the prestigious “Outstanding Cybersecurity Engineer & Information Security Analyst Professional of the Year” award at the just concluded 10th edition of the African Icon Awards.

The event, which celebrates Africa’s exceptional changemakers, was held on July 26, 2025, at the Colonnade Hall, Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.

The African Icon Awards recognise individuals across the continent who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and made remarkable contributions to nation-building.

Olakunle’s nomination and eventual win underscore his significant impact on Nigeria’s ICT sector—particularly in the areas of cybersecurity and information security—where his expertise has been instrumental in safeguarding digital infrastructure and promoting data protection awareness.

This year’s theme, “True African Leaders: The Power of African Youth in Leadership,” highlighted the rising influence of young African professionals in shaping the continent’s future. Olakunle’s recognition cements his position as a leading voice in technological innovation and digital security within this dynamic demographic.
