The Dean of the Faculty of Computing at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in Kaduna, Professor Philip Achimugu, has called on the federal government to provide greater support for the provision of network infrastructure and reduce the cost of data.
He emphasised that such measures would make ICT services more accessible and affordable, fostering technological development and innovation across the country.
Speaking at AFIT’s first inaugural lecture, Achimugu urged the government to prioritize local content development and encourage the integration of ICT into every sector of the economy.
“The government should support the provision of reliable network infrastructure, reduce the cost of data, and promote local content development,” he said, stressing that these actions would open up opportunities for growth and job creation.
He also advocated for stronger collaboration between schools, government, and the private sector to drive technological advancements and provide practical solutions to real-life challenges. According to Achimugu, such partnerships are essential for the success of the nation’s digital economy.
Air Vice Marshal Sani Labaran Rabe, Commandant of AFIT, praised the institute’s achievements and growth, highlighting its contributions to technology development, including the successful completion of unmanned drone projects and cyber security innovations. He also reiterated AFIT’s commitment to supporting the government’s vision for economic development through technological advancement and youth empowerment.
