AFCON 2023: Iheanacho continues to ask questions over no-show

Kelechi Iheanacho’s dazzling performances have continued to beg the question why the Leicester City striker has yet to feature at the AFCON.

Coach Jose Peseiro has brushed aside talks that he personally clashed with Iheanacho recently, while the player himself has declared he has fully recovered from a thigh injury that had threatened to rule him out of the AFCON.

“Iheanacho has simply impressed in training with the Super Eagles,” a journalist covering the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire told SCORENigeria

“Last night (Monday), he again caught the eye in seven-a-side games the Super Eagles played.

“His goals were well-taken, he played without any stress, he is simply a very talented player.”

He added: “The Super Eagles may be winning now, but they still need a player like Iheanacho.

“We still don’t know the real reason he has not yet played at this competition.”

Iheanacho,27, has scored 13 goals in 47 appearances for the Super Eagles since his debut in November 2015.

This is his second AFCON after he previously featured at the 2021 tournament and was overlooked for the 2019 edition.
